Copy a Project: How to Copy & Customize Projects

Copying a project can save a lot of time when working on multiple similar projects. This page explains how to copy a project and what the different options mean.

Find the project you want to copy

It's easy to copy a project from an existing project. To copy a project, navigate to the project of your choice and click on the name. This will show the project menu where you'll select "copy." You’ll be able to give the copied project a new name, description and choose the data you would like to include or exclude.

Choose which data to copy

You can customise the name, description and start date of the new project. By default only task names are copied to the new project but you can use the checkboxes to choose additional task fields to be copied.

Notes on fields which can be copied:

  • Choosing to copy assignments does copy assignees and their assigned hours per task, but it does not copy timesheet entires.
  • Some other task data which is not copied over: inter-project dependencies, locked tasks, actual cost, actual hours, percent complete and baselines.

Click Copy

Once you've made your adjustments simply click on Copy to create a copy of the project. You will be redirected to the newly created project automatically.

If you choose to include existing project members in your copied project, those project members will get an immediate alert per their alert settings.
