Delete or Archive a Project

Archive, close or permanently delete a project.

To remove a project in ProjectManager, there are three options:

  • Archive the project — soft-deletes the project; can be restored at any time
  • Mark a project as closed — keeps it accessible on the Portfolio page but removes it from the left navigation menu
  • Delete a project permanently
Once a project status has been changed, it will reflect immediately across the software.

Archiving (Soft-Deleting) a Project

To archive a project, you must be the project creator. Navigate to the project and open Project Settings by clicking the project name in the upper-left corner.

Delete a project-1

When you click Delete, a confirmation dialog will appear. Click OK to archive the project. This removes it from the left navigation menu and updates the project status to Deleted on the Portfolio page (learn more).

You can also archive a project from the portfolio projects page by clicking the three-dot menu (⋯) next to the project name and selecting Delete from the dropdown.

Once you archive the project, you can restore it at any time. On the Portfolio page, click the three-dot menu (⋯) next to the grayed-out project name and select Restore from the dropdown.

Changing the Project Status to Closed

Instead of archiving or permanently deleting a project, you can change its status to Closed. Access Project Settings from the Portfolio > Projects page. Access Project Settings from the Portfolio > Projects page menu or by clicking the project name in the upper-left corner.

In Project Settings, click Status and change the status to Closed.

Change project status to closed

Closing a project is the best option when you no longer need active access but may need to revisit it later.

Closed projects are removed from the left navigation menu but remain visible on the Portfolio page. You can re-open a closed project at any time by changing its status back to Active, and it will immediately become available for editing. Related: Understanding closed and deleted projects.

Permanently Deleting a Project

To permanently delete a project, you must delete it twice. The first deletion archives the project (see the Archiving section above). To permanently delete it, go to the Portfolio page, click the three-dot menu (⋯) next to the grayed-out project name, and select Delete again.

Once you confirm the second deletion, the project is permanently deleted and cannot be restored. Make sure you want to permanently delete the project before proceeding.
